Description
This new market serves as an anchor for the increasingly popular Lincoln Park North neighborhood. The new 80,000 SF market consists of a street-level food market with at-grade parking and two levels of parking above.
Situated between Kingsbury Street and the Riverwalk, the market creates and preserves the critical pedestrian-level scale of this urban neighborhood. The primary entrance, located on the northeast corner is wrapped in glass and internally illuminated, acting as a beacon for the neighborhood. At street level, the expansive glazed atrium, with its multi-colored glass, its visible escalators and balconies, create an active, friendly and welcoming place, with a strong connection to the street and neighborhood. Along Kingsbury Street, a recessed outdoor seating area creates a gracious urban transition from the sidewalk to the secondary entrance. An interior mezzanine leads pedestrians from the Kingsbury Street entrance, through the store, and out on a balcony and terrace along the Riverwalk along the West side. An outdoor dining terrace and an enclosed bistro offer views overlooking the river in all seasons.
The exterior walls are assembled of a variety of natural materials; clay tile cladding, large glass openings, and corrugated aluminum panels create a harmonious, contemporary building that is inviting for visitors and passersby. The parking decks are wrapped with a composite wood louver screen which visually conceals them, and provides fresh-air ventilation, minimizing the need for additional mechanical systems.
