Description
The proposed project includes renovation and additions to the Davies Symphony Hall: an expanded street level lobby, a new performance park, a new recital hall, and expansion of the musician support wing. The interior of the Davies Hall is being re-envisioned to create a more intimate experience by minimizing the amount of balcony seating and by reducing the seat count from 2,700 to approximately 2,100 seats, this is consistent with other world class symphony halls. The new design eliminates the lifted stage to create a more direct relationship between performer and audience.
An expanded lobby activates Grove Street and provides a direct connection with the hall. The outdoor terrace above the new lobby connects directly to the orchestra lobby and provides views of City Hall.
A new outdoor performance park replaces the existing surface parking lot. The new park will be open to the public during daylight hours and include cultural and educational programs.
