Description
Originally constructed in 1889, the Carousel Building in Golden Gate Park is part of one of the earliest children’s facilities in a public park. Last renovated almost 20 years ago, the popular and well-used building was in disrepair and in need of renovation. After historic conservator Christina Wallace identified the original materials used in the Carousel, Mark Cavagnero Associates chose finishes that recall the building’s initial appearance. The painted roof was replaced with a zinc roof similar to, but more durable than, the original tin roof. The exterior was painted a sand color reminiscent of the original. New lighting, doors, and signage completed the project, restoring the Carousel building to its original grandeur.
